Target Information
FMN2, a novel formin homology protein of the cappuccino subfamily, is highly conserved among vertebrates. FMN2 shows high similarity to formin-1, the founding member of formin homology proteins. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the meiotic spindle and is widely expressed in human fetal brain, adult whole brain, hypothalamus, retina, pancreatic islet, and germinal-center B cells. Pathological roles have been identified in tumors such as parathyroid tumor, glioblastoma, retinoblastoma, and chondrosarcoma. Mutations in FMN2 are associated with unexplained infertility in women. The human FMN2 gene is localized in chromosomal region 1q43.
