PCV2 바이러스 입자는 약 17 nm 크기의 비피막성 입자로, 단일 가닥 원형 DNA가 icosahedral capsid에 둘러싸여 있습니다. DNA는 약 1.77 kb 길이이며 11개의 잠재적 ORF를 포함합니다. PCV2는 돼지의 여러 질병 증후군과 관련되어 있으며, 특히 이유 후 다기관 소모 증후군(Post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome, PMWS)은 PCV2 감염과 관련된 중요한 신흥 바이러스 질환으로 알려져 있습니다. PMWS는 유럽, 동남아시아, 아메리카 지역에서 보고되었습니다.
