Target Information
STAG3 is a meiosis-specific component of the cohesin complex, required for the cohesion of sister chromatids after DNA replication. The cohesin complex forms a large proteinaceous ring that traps sister chromatids. During anaphase, the complex is cleaved and dissociates from chromatin, allowing segregation. The meiosis-specific cohesin complex likely replaces the mitosis-specific complex during prophase I.
