Target Information
Blood-group antigens are molecules formed by sequential addition of saccharides to carbohydrate side chains of lipids and proteins, found on erythrocytes and certain epithelial cells. The A, B, and H antigens may undergo modulation during malignant transformation. Blood group-related antigens are carbohydrate determinants on glycolipids and glycoproteins, typically mucin-type, and are present on erythrocytes, epithelial cells, and in secretions. Sixteen genetically and biosynthetically distinct but interrelated specificities belong to this group, including A, B, H, Lewis A, Lewis B, Lewis X, Lewis Y, and precursor type 1 chain antigens.
