RAP1A는 RAS 관련 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, RAS 단백질과 약 50%의 아미노산 서열 유사성을 공유합니다.
RAS 단백질과의 주요 차이는 61번째 아미노산으로, RAS에서는 글루타민(Q)이지만 RAP 단백질에서는 트레오닌(T)으로 대체되어 있습니다.
RAP1A는 RAS GAPs 및 RAF와 경쟁적으로 상호작용하여 RAS의 세포분열 촉진 기능을 억제합니다.
이 유전자는 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사 변이체를 가집니다.
