The T-box (Tbx) motif is present in a family of genes involved in developmental gene regulation. Tbx genes are conserved throughout metazoan evolution and encode transcription factors with a unique DNA-binding domain. Mutations in Tbx genes are linked to several human diseases, and functional mechanisms have been primarily studied in the T/Brachyury transcription activator.
