NR2C1 gene encodes a nuclear hormone receptor characterized by:
- Highly conserved DNA binding domain (DBD)
- Variable hinge region
- Carboxy-terminal ligand binding domain (LBD), typical of steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily
This protein functions as a ligand-inducible transcription factor regulating gene expression via binding to specific DNA sequences within promoters of target genes. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported, though some full-length forms remain undetermined.
