Target Information
Iron regulatory protein 2 (IRP2) is a central post-transcriptional regulator of cellular and systemic iron metabolism. It is a cytosolic RNA-binding protein that binds to stem-loop structures and is regulated by iron-mediated proteolysis.
Hypoxia is important for normal tissue physiology as well as several pathophysiological conditions, including heart and cerebrovascular diseases and tumor growth.
Because iron and oxygen are closely related, IRP2 also plays a role during hypoxia (low oxygen).
