Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7 (SCA7)는 비정상적으로 확장된 polyglutamine (CAG) 반복 서열로 인해 발생하는 유전성 신경퇴행성 질환군에 속합니다.
이 질환은 주로 소뇌, 망막, 뇌간에 영향을 주며, 치매, 황반변성 및 기타 신경퇴행성 특징을 유발합니다.
SCA7 유전자는 892개의 아미노산으로 이루어진 단백질 Ataxin-7을 암호화하며, 정상적인 뇌 신경세포에서는 세포질 및 핵막에 위치합니다.
돌연변이가 발생한 세포에서는 Ataxin-7이 핵 내 포함체로 축적되어 세포 사멸을 유도할 수 있습니다.
