Target Information

Calcium-activated non-selective (CAN) cation channel that mediates membrane depolarization. Activated by increased intracellular Ca²⁺ but impermeable to it. Mediates transport of monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺, Li⁺), leading to membrane depolarization. Plays a central role in cardiomyocytes, neurons, endocrine pancreas cells, kidney epithelial cells, and cochlea hair cells. Participates in T-cell activation by modulating Ca²⁺ oscillations required for NFAT-dependent IL2 production. Involved in myogenic constriction of cerebral arteries and insulin secretion in pancreatic beta-cells. May contribute to pacemaking and irregular electrical activity under Ca²⁺ overload. Regulates Th1 and Th2 cell motility and cytokine production via calcium signaling and NFATC1 localization. Enhances cell proliferation through β-catenin signaling pathway up-regulation.
