Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family. DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are involved in cellular processes such as translation initiation, splicing, and ribosome assembly. Some members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cell growth. The encoded protein can shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm and has RNA-independent ATPase activity. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
