The TMEM189-UEV mRNA is an infrequent but naturally occurring co-transcribed product of the neighboring TMEM189 and UBE2V1 genes.
Ubiquitin-conjugating E2 enzyme variant proteins form a distinct subfamily within the E2 protein family.
They share sequence similarity with other ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes but lack the conserved cysteine residue essential for catalytic activity.
The protein encoded by this transcript contains UEV1 B domains and is localized to the cytoplasm rather than the nucleus.
The biological significance of this co-transcribed mRNA and its protein product remains undetermined.
