Target Information
Caspases are a family of cysteine proteases divided into apoptotic and inflammatory subfamilies. Members of the inflammatory subfamily, including caspase-1, -4, -5, and -12, are associated with immune responses rather than cell death. Caspase-5 interacts with caspase-1 as part of the NALP1 inflammasome, which activates proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and IL-18. Expression of caspase-5 can be regulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and IFN-gamma.
