Target Information
Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) plays an essential role in lipid metabolism and is a constituent of various plasma lipoprotein-lipid particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, and is abundant in interstitial fluids where it mediates cholesterol transport between cells. Apo E is also involved in the formation of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and chylomicrons. The Apo E gene is located on chromosome 19 at position 19q13.2.
