Target Information
Kinesins are a superfamily of microtubule-associated motor proteins involved in various cellular processes such as organelle transport and cell division. These proteins possess a conserved motor domain (~350 amino acids) responsible for microtubule binding and ATP hydrolysis.
Kinesin C2 (KIFC2) is a C-type kinesin with its motor domain located near the carboxyl-terminus and is related to the KAR3 family involved in cell division. KIFC2 expression has been observed in axons and dendrites of the central and peripheral nervous systems, suggesting a role in retrograde axonal transport.
