BMS1은 인간 유전자 BMS1에 의해 암호화된 1,282 아미노산 단백질로, BMS1/TSR1 패밀리(BMS1 서브패밀리)에 속하는 핵 단백질입니다.
이 단백질은 인핵 내 40S 리보솜 소단위체의 성숙 과정에서 분자 스위치로 작용하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
40S 리보솜 소단위체는 60S 리보솜 소단위체 및 개시 tRNA와 함께 80S 리보솜 복합체를 구성하며, mRNA 개시 코돈에서 번역 개시를 위해 eIFs(진핵 개시 인자)에 의해 조립됩니다. 이 리보솜 소단위체의 결합에는 eIF5B가 필요합니다.
