Target Information
The SPARC gene encodes a cysteine-rich acidic matrix-associated protein. This protein is essential for collagen calcification in bone and is involved in extracellular matrix synthesis and modulation of cell shape. It has been linked to tumor suppression as well as metastasis through its role in promoting cell shape changes that facilitate tumor cell invasion. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
