Target Information
ABCC11 is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily, which transports various molecules across cellular membranes. ABC genes are divided into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
ABCC11 belongs to the MRP subfamily involved in multidrug resistance and participates in physiological processes involving bile acids, conjugated steroids, and cyclic nucleotides.
A SNP in this gene determines human earwax type. ABCC11 and ABCC12 are derived by duplication and localized to chromosome 16q12.1. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
