Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the CD1 family of transmembrane glycoproteins, structurally related to MHC proteins, forming heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin. CD1 proteins present lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells. The human genome contains five CD1 family genes on chromosome 1, differing in localization and ligand specificity. The CD1C protein localizes to late endosomes and lysosomes and requires vesicular acidification for lipid antigen binding.
