Target Information
Phosphoglycerate mutase (PGAM) catalyzes the reversible conversion of 3-phosphoglycerate (3-PGA) to 2-phosphoglycerate (2-PGA) in glycolysis.
PGAM is a dimeric enzyme with tissue-specific isozyme compositions: muscle (MM), brain (BB), and hybrid (MB).
The PGAM2 gene encodes the muscle-specific PGAM subunit. Mutations in PGAM2 are associated with muscle phosphoglycerate mutase deficiency, also known as glycogen storage disease X.
