Target Information
CD68 (Macrosialin) is a 110 kDa integral membrane glycoprotein predominantly expressed in intracellular lysosomes of monocytes and macrophages, and to a lesser extent by dendritic cells and granulocytes. It plays a role in phagocytic activities and is associated with lysosomal metabolism and cell-pathogen interactions. CD68 expression is observed in interdigitating reticulum cells, certain histiocytic lymphomas, histiocytosis, AML, and granulocytic sarcoma. Elevated CD68 levels have been found in CD34+ cells in various human malignancies, including several acute myeloid leukemia studies.
