NME4 is a protein kinase enzyme that transfers phosphate groups from ATP to substrate proteins, mediating signal transduction in eukaryotic cells. It regulates various cellular processes such as metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, apoptosis, and differentiation.
The protein kinase family includes over 500 gene products and is classified into 8 major groups based on catalytic domain sequences (PTK or STK).
The AGC kinase group includes 63 kinases such as:
- PKA/PKG family (cyclic nucleotide-regulated)
- PKC family (diacylglycerol-activated/phospholipid-dependent)
- RAC/Akt family (related to PKA and PKC)
- ARK family (G protein-coupled receptor kinases)
