Target Information
The PTGES2 gene encodes the enzyme prostaglandin E synthase 2 (PTGES2), which plays a key role in the biosynthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) from arachidonic acid. This enzyme functions downstream of the cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway, interacting with COX-1 and COX-2. PTGES2 regulates physiological and pathological processes such as inflammation, fever, and pain by generating PGE2. It is a membrane-associated protein distinct from other prostaglandin synthases due to its unique functional and regulatory properties. PTGES2 activity fine-tunes PGE2 levels in tissues, influencing immune responses and vascular functions.
