Target Information
ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1) acts as a transcriptional repressor and inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression. It modulates promoter activity of ATP1A1 gene depending on cDNA quantity and cell type. ZEB1 represses E-cadherin promoters, inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) through recruitment of SMARCA4/BRG1. It also represses BCL6 transcription with CTBP1, positively regulates neuronal differentiation, and represses RCOR1 transcription during neurogenesis. Mutations in ZEB1 can cause corneal dystrophy, posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy, and Fuchs endothelial dystrophy.
