Target Information
This gene belongs to the protocadherin gene family, a subfamily of the cadherin superfamily. The encoded protein contains an extracellular domain with seven cadherin repeats, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail distinct from classical cadherins. The gene is located in a major X/Y block of homology, with a closely related member on the X chromosome. The protein is believed to play a crucial role in cell-cell recognition necessary for the segmental development and function of the central nervous system. Alternative splicing generates isoforms with N- and C-terminal variations.
