Target Information
The 90 kDa heat shock protein (Hsp90) family of molecular chaperones is a highly conserved group of proteins that play important physiological roles. Hsp90 is involved in numerous cellular processes and is best known for its association with signal transduction machinery.
TRAP1, a recently cloned homolog of Hsp90, is associated with various proteins involved in diverse cellular functions. Immunofluorescence data indicate that TRAP1 is localized in the mitochondria of mammalian cells. The presence of a mitochondrial targeting presequence suggests that TRAP1 functions as a mitochondrial matrix protein.
