Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered structure composed of two complexes, a 20S core and a 19S regulator. The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings). The 19S regulator includes a base with ATPase and non-ATPase subunits, and a lid with up to 10 non-ATPase subunits. Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and function in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides. This gene encodes a protein that inhibits proteasome activation by the 11S and 19S regulators. Alternative transcript variants have been identified.
