Target Information
The G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily consists of approximately 600–1,000 members and represents the largest known class of molecular targets with proven therapeutic value.
GPR17 is an orphan G protein-coupled receptor involved in the orchestration of oligodendrocyte differentiation and myelination in the central nervous system. It is expressed in brain, kidney, heart, and umbilical vein endothelial cells.
GPR17 exhibits dual specificity for uracil nucleotides and cysteinyl leukotrienes and signals through G(i) protein by inhibiting adenylyl cyclase. It may mediate brain damage by nucleotides and cysteinyl leukotrienes following ischemia.
