Target Information
The GCM2 gene is a homolog of the Drosophila glial cells missing gene, acting as a binary switch between neuronal and glial cell determination. The encoded protein contains a conserved N-terminal GCM motif with DNA-binding activity and functions as a transcription factor regulating parathyroid development. It may mediate calcium effects on parathyroid hormone expression and secretion. Mutations in this gene are associated with hypoparathyroidism.
