Target Information
Axin-related protein AXIN2 plays an important role in regulating the stability of beta-catenin in the Wnt signaling pathway. In mouse, conductin organizes a multiprotein complex including APC, beta-catenin, and GSK3-beta, leading to beta-catenin degradation. Deregulation of beta-catenin is implicated in various malignancies. The AXIN2 gene, mapped to 17q23–q24, shows frequent loss of heterozygosity in breast cancer, neuroblastoma, and other tumors. Mutations in AXIN2 are associated with colorectal cancer with defective mismatch repair.
