Target Information

C1orf55 (SDE2) is involved in DNA replication and cell cycle control. Unprocessed SDE2 interacts with PCNA via its PIP-box, preventing monoubiquitination of PCNA and inhibiting translesion DNA synthesis. The interaction leads to processing by a deubiquitinating enzyme, removing the N-terminal ubiquitin-like domain. Mature SDE2 is degraded by the DCX(DTL) complex in a cell cycle- and DNA damage-dependent manner. Binding of SDE2 to PCNA counteracts UV-induced replication stress, and complete degradation of SDE2 is necessary for S-phase progression. [UniProt]
