Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, controlling cell growth and differentiation. It is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, and membrane-dependent depolarization. MEK1 activation occurs via phosphorylation at serine residues 218 and 222 by Raf1. It is involved in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation. Mutations in MAP2K1 can cause cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
