PIGN은 glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchor 생합성에 관여하는 단백질로, 많은 혈액세포의 표면 단백질을 세포막에 고정시키는 역할을 하는 glycolipid인 GPI-anchor의 형성에 필수적입니다. 이 단백질은 소포체(Endoplasmic Reticulum)에서 발현되며, GPI anchor의 첫 번째 mannose에 phosphoethanolamine (EtNP)을 전달합니다.
