Target Information

The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper cells but can also be found in other immune cells such as monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. At the tissue level, CD4 expression occurs in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut. CD4 contributes to T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and the tyrosine kinase Lck. It may also play a role in neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
