Target Information

Members of the TNF superfamily regulate immune responses and induce apoptosis. Two novel members, BAFF (also known as BLyS, TALL-1, THANK, zTNF4) and APRIL (also known as TALL-2), have been identified.
BAFF acts as a B cell activator, inducing proliferation and immunoglobulin secretion, while APRIL regulates both immunological and non-immunological cell growth.
Three receptors—BCMA, TACI, and BAFF-R—bind BAFF and APRIL. TACI, similar to BCMA, binds both ligands and plays a role in regulating humoral immune responses, activating NF-kappa-B and c-Jun N-terminal kinase, and is implicated in B cell-associated autoimmune diseases.
