Cytokeratin 8은 chromosome 12의 긴 팔에 위치한 type II keratin 계열 단백질입니다. Type I 및 II keratin은 상피세포의 세포질 내에서 중간 필라멘트를 형성하기 위해 이합체를 형성합니다. Cytokeratin 8은 일반적으로 keratin 18과 함께 단층 상피세포에서 중간 필라멘트를 구성하며, 세포 구조 유지, 신호 전달, 세포 분화에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 해당 유전자의 돌연변이는 cryptogenic cirrhosis를 유발할 수 있습니다.
