Target Information
USP7 (also known as HAUSP) is a ubiquitin-specific protease that removes ubiquitin from its substrates. It plays a key role in regulating protein stability, particularly by antagonizing Mdm2, the E3 ubiquitin ligase responsible for p53 degradation. Through deubiquitination of p53, USP7 stabilizes this tumor suppressor protein in response to oncogenic stress, potentially contributing to tumor suppression. Additionally, USP7 may act in oncogenic pathways involving Myc and E1A, possibly providing an alternative mechanism for protecting cells against oncogenic insults.
