Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Collagen XI alpha 1.
Target Information
Collagen Type XI is an 1806 amino acid protein belonging to the fibrillar collagen family. It plays an important role in fibrillogenesis by controlling lateral growth of collagen II fibrils. The protein forms trimers composed of three different chains: α1(XI), α2(XI), and α3(XI), with α3(XI) being a post-translational modification of α1(II). Collagen Type XI has three named isoforms (A, B, C) and additional isoforms generated by alternative exon usage (IIA/IIB). It is expressed in cartilage, placenta, and some tumor or virally transformed cell lines. Mutations in the COL11A gene are associated with Stickler syndrome type 2 (STL2).
