Target Information
HIP2 (Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 K) accepts ubiquitin from the E1 complex and catalyzes its covalent attachment to other proteins. In vitro, it catalyzes the synthesis of Lys-48-linked polyubiquitin chains, mediating selective degradation of short-lived and abnormal proteins such as those involved in ER-associated degradation (ERAD). It ubiquitinates huntingtin and may influence foam cell formation by regulating apoptosis through p53/TP53 degradation. HIP2 is also proposed to participate in NF-kappa-B processing and may be involved in viral infection-related degradation of MHC class I heavy chains and RB1.
