Target Information
The Id family of basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) proteins includes ID1, ID2, ID3, and ID4. These proteins are ubiquitously expressed and form dimers with class A and B HLH proteins. Because they lack the basic DNA-binding region, the resulting heterodimers cannot bind DNA, thus negatively regulating bHLH protein activity. ID proteins play roles in controlling muscle-specific gene expression and are regulated by growth factor activation. Reduction of ID mRNA levels delays cell cycle reentry after growth factor stimulation.
