Target Information
The 90 kDa heat shock protein (hsp90) family of molecular chaperones is a highly conserved group of proteins that play an important physiological role. Hsp90 is involved in numerous cellular processes, particularly in signal transduction.
A recently cloned homolog of hsp90, tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated protein (TRAP1), shares similar properties and is associated with various proteins involved in diverse cellular actions.
Immunofluorescence data indicate that TRAP1 localizes to the mitochondria of mammalian cells, supported by the presence of a mitochondrial targeting presequence, suggesting that TRAP1 functions as a mitochondrial matrix protein.
