This membrane protein is important in maintaining proper ionic balance and cell volume.
NKCC1 is an electrically silent transporter that mediates sodium and chloride reabsorption and is phosphorylated in response to DNA damage.
Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been identified for NKCC1.
Diseases associated with SLC12A2 include Basosquamous Carcinoma and Metatypical Basal Cell Carcinoma.
