Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCE (PKC epsilon), is activated intracellularly by signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 different PKC polypeptides have been identified, differing in structure, tissue distribution, localization, and activity. PKC alpha, beta I, beta II, and gamma form the conventional family, which are Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent. PKC family members phosphorylate various protein targets and play roles in diverse cellular signaling pathways. They also serve as receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters. Each PKC isoform has distinct expression and cellular functions.
