Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in detection of cool sensations, activated by temperatures below 25°C, icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, and modulation of intracellular pH. It is permeable to monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent calcium (Ca²⁺).
TRPM8 expression is mainly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, with moderate levels in normal prostate tissue and elevated levels in prostate cancer. TRPM8 mRNA has also been detected in nonprostatic tumors of breast, colon, lung, and skin origin, but rarely in corresponding normal tissues.
