Target Information
Cytokine receptor signaling is negatively regulated by the SOCS (Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling) family, which includes eight members: SOCS1–7 and CIS. These adaptor molecules contain a central SH2 domain and a C-terminal SOCS box. SOCS proteins act as part of a negative feedback loop controlling cytokine signal transduction via STAT-mediated transcription. Expression of SOCS genes is rapidly induced by cytokines, and each member inhibits signaling through distinct mechanisms.
