Target Information
The protein encoded by CETN3 contains four EF-hand calcium-binding domains and belongs to the centrin protein family. Centrins are evolutionarily conserved proteins similar to the CDC31 protein of S. cerevisiae, which plays a key role in centrosome duplication and separation. Multiple human and mammalian centrin isoforms have been identified, many associated with centrosomal fractions. CETN3 is one of the most abundant centrins linked to the centrosome, suggesting a similar function to its yeast counterpart. Alternative splicing results in different isoforms of this gene.
