Target Information

IL-15 (Interleukin 15) is a cytokine that regulates T and natural killer (NK) cell activation and proliferation. IL-15 and IL-2 share receptor subunits and may compete for binding, influencing each other’s activity. IL-15 induces activation of JAK kinases and phosphorylation of STAT3, STAT5, and STAT6.
In mice, IL-15 may enhance expression of the apoptosis inhibitor Bcl-xL via STAT6, preventing apoptosis. It is essential for growth and differentiation of T/B lymphocytes, NK cells, macrophages, and monocytes, and plays a role in immune responses, allograft rejection, and autoimmune disease pathogenesis.
IL-15 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine implicated in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and pulmonary inflammation. Neutralization of IL-15 has shown beneficial effects in models of psoriasis and diabetes.
