Target Information
NEK9 is a NEK-type protein kinase involved in chromosome alignment and segregation during mitosis. It contains:
- An N-terminal NIMA-like catalytic domain
- A central domain homologous to RCC1 (guanine nucleotide exchange factor for Ran)
- A C-terminal coiled-coil domain
NEK9 is phosphorylated by active p34(Cdc2), capable of autophosphorylation and oligomerization, and interacts with Nek6, RCC1, and Bicd2. Expression has been documented in normal human brain and various tissues including bone, lymph, thymus, cervix, eye, and placenta.
