Target Information
Mox1 and the glycoprotein gp91-phox are essential components of the NADPH oxidase complex. This superoxide-generating enzyme is expressed in phagocytes, neuroepithelial bodies, vascular smooth muscle cells, and endothelial cells.
The complex includes membrane-bound flavocytochrome subunits (gp91-phox and p22-phox) and cytosolic proteins (p47-phox and p67-phox).
p22- and gp91-phox also act as surface O₂ sensors initiating signaling under hypoxic conditions.
Mox1 and gp91 share identical C-terminal sequences but have distinct expression patterns: gp91-phox is found in eosinophils, neutrophils, monocytes, and B-lymphocytes, while Mox1 is mainly expressed in the colon, with low levels in the uterus and prostate.
