Target Information

The preB cell receptor, CD179b, is expressed on the surface of proB and preB cells and plays a key role in signal transduction for cellular proliferation and differentiation from the proB to preB stage. It also contributes to allelic exclusion at the Ig heavy chain gene locus and promotes Ig light chain rearrangements.
This gene encodes one of the surrogate light chain subunits and belongs to the immunoglobulin gene superfamily. Mutations in this gene can cause B cell deficiency and agammaglobulinemia, an autosomal recessive disease characterized by the absence or severe reduction of gamma globulins or antibodies. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
